Birth

Soft Corner is proud to offer birth services in the comfort of your own home or our beautiful Birth Center. But truthfully your early labor support begins before we’ve even settled into either location. Before your midwife even arrives at your home (or you arrive at the birthing center), you will have had close contact throughout early labor. During labor, fetal heart tones and vitals will be assessed, ensuring everyone is coping well with labor. You are encouraged to eat, move and rest as inclined. Support and affirmation will be provided throughout labor to suit your individual needs. Families and partners are welcome to be involved in the process. In the immediate postpartum period, we will assess everyone’s transitions and recovery, provide breastfeeding support, complete a comprehensive newborn exam and then tuck everyone into bed.

Includes:

  • 24-hr Midwifery Labor Call Service

  • Early Labor Assessment

  • Comprehensive Active Labor Management

  • Labor Monitoring (fetal heart tones, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, input + output, and cervical dilation)

  • Physical and Emotional Labor Support

  • Immediate Postpartum Management and Support

  • Comprehensive Newborn Exam

  • Newborn Medications (vitamin k and erythromycin as desired)

Postpartum + Newborn Care

Hospital based postpartum and well baby care in the United States typically consists of only one visit for baby at 2 weeks and one visit for the client at 6 weeks. So much transition takes place in those first few days and again in the following weeks. Soft Corner aims to nurture the fourth trimester.

Home based care offered in the first week postpartum allows your family time to recover and bond. We proudly offer this in depth service for you and your baby. Immune systems can be fragile at this time, but staying at home allows microbiomes to strengthen and illness exposure to be limited. We offer 3 home visits in that first week, including a meeting with Take Care Lactation.

Your midwife also remains available 24-hours a day for urgent matters.

Licensed Midwives are considered primary care providers for babies in this early time frame, so care includes comprehensive and holistic baby care, as well as assessing your postpartum recovery up to 8 weeks.

Once back at the clinic, we will continue postpartum support through to a full well body care visit at 6 weeks. Your care then includes a pelvic floor assessment by Root to Rise Physical Therapy at 8 weeks.

While this model of care looks pretty different from other providers, we firmly believe this is what postpartum care should look like for everyone.
