The Lactation Basics
Below are a few of our tried and true must-haves to consider when preparing to lactate.
The Brestfriend nursing pillow is the one you want. There’s all sorts of nursing pillows out there, but most of them don’t actually function and end up in the back of the closet. This one is you Brestfriend! Trust us!
The Haakaa passive pump collector is an incredible too. Even if you don’t intend to pump we recommend keeping this in your toolkit as there are a few wonderful protocols that include it for troubleshooting common lactation discomforts too.
Get a few Colostrum Collectors to stock up an that liquid gold prenatally for your sweet babe. Just in case there is any trickiness with initial newborn feeding or your recovery, holding onto these precious nutrients for your little one is a pro-move.
The Medela Manual Breast Pump is such an unsung hero. Hopefully you’ve already ordered your free electronic breast pump through your providers already, but we’d still consider adding this little sweetie to your gear.
Consider picking up a small amount of Formula that you appreciate the ingredients of. Sometimes its nice to just have this as a back up, in case there are any initial feeding needs while your fresh babe learns to nurse. Having it tucked away in the pantry really beats the 2am desperation hunt!
The Baby Basics
These are the products we go back to over and over again when it comes to essentials for new babes.
When it comes to your babe’s behind, you want simple gentle products (no fragrance, bleaches, plastics…) to avoid irritation between all the diaper changes. These Water Wipes are a great option!
Consider getting a Sidecar Co-sleeper for baby in their early months. These are great options to optimize everyone in the family safely sleeping. One that levels up to the side of your mattress and has an easy access side to it would be wonderful!
We’d be remiss not to mention the Engel Wool Onesie of course. Every Mainer baby knows this little storm suit will take you far! You can size up and get a ton of life out of this little over-onesie.
The ErgoBaby carrier just seems to always be our go-to. So versatile for baby size and the person carrying them. There are so many carrier styles out there and you may end up wanting a few, but we just love this one.
Flander’s Buttocks Ointment is our go-to when those pesky diaper rashes kick in. Works like a charm!
Your Basics
Here are some of the things that often aren’t considered on the registry, but we really think ought to be!
Consider stocking up on easy, organic, freezer meals and snacks. Having food that is highly nourishing and requires the least amount of energy to make is optimal for your postpartum recovery!
Saalt Postpartum Underwear is a game changer when it comes to comfort and ease. It’s pretty normal for people to bleed postpartum (lightly that is) for around six weeks! After the first few days of giganto pads, your tissues will be grateful for something a little simpler.
We want you hanging in bed for those first couple weeks, so make sure you’ve got some casual wear for lounging with your little one, ready to go. We recommend cotton for it’s breathability with milk transitioning in. And think about the ease of promoting skin-to-skin time with your baby, like getting a button front top.
We love this Cramp Control herbal blend. It’s an amazing, wildly effective, and quick-acting tincture to ease those dreaded uterine afterpains that sometimes pop-up while nursing in the first few days postpartum. Works like a charm!
Are you due for a fresh set of sheets? Consider grabbing a linen or cotton set to throw in the mix. You’ll thank us with those postpartum hormones and night-sweats!
